Besides the fact that by now most people forgot these were even made at one point (especially the unicorn Aspen Hybrid), these fell pretty flat despite being produced for just over 3 years. Almost 65,000 were made total. A grand total of 30 were sold in its final year. Where did it go wrong though?

Despite the horrible interior materials (its pre bankruptcy ChryCo so it was pretty terrible) I always thought that it was a good effort from Chrysler and more handsome than the Durango. It even has glowing reviews from owners. Few reviews I read had customers choosing it over a QX45 and another choose it over an Escalade. I think if Chrysler had made a second gen, especially Chrysler now it would have been better? So what was wrong with it? Despite the obvious fact that its too heavily based on the Durango?

They were absolute shit.

The transmissions were shit.

The engines were complete shit and blew up on a regular basis.

The electronics were shit.

The factory rustproofing was shit, (they rusted like crazy.)

The actual interior build quality was shit.

Were the Hemi’s shit in just this? Because I’ve never really heard of any bad Hemi stories in anything from Ram’s to 300’s

I’ve heard Hemi horror stories around the Mopar lineup.

I found these and this gen Durango to be flat out ugly.

It was an expensive version of an expensive vehicle at the wrong time.

The resemblance to the Durango shouldn’t have been a problem, the first gen Cadillac Escalade was very obviously a Suburban with a fancy grille and even the current Navigator isn’t really distinguished all that much from the Expedition. Buyers in this category don’t care about such things.

The interior was crappy though, plus, it came out for 2007 - which was probably past the peak for big luxo SUVs. If Chrysler had done it maybe 6-7 years earlier, it would have had a better chance of finding its footing.

When people are buying an expensive luxury SUV, they don’t want build quality that would be considered low-rent even by economy car standards. Especially the interiors. God they are horrible.

Were Chrylser to do a version of the new Durango (with different sheet metal, not just new badges and stupid chrome on the exterior) I think they could do quite well.
